Stacked toy decoration

I don’t know about you, but every time I do a proper tidy-up I find about a billion tiny toys that don’t seem to have a home. Instead of throwing them out though, I separate them out into wood or plastic and keep them in bags for future projects that I haven’t thought up yet.

This is one of those projects that made me glad I hadn’t chucked them away. It’s pretty simple really. Gather, stack, glue and paint could be the instructions but for the sake of showing lots of lovely pictures, I present you the following tutorial.

What you need:

  • A bunch of old old toys. We used blocks, corks, buttons and beads and odds & ends.

  • Hot glue (regular glue would work with a lot of patience)

  • Cord or string

  • Paint

  • Paint pens (optional but great)

  • Varnish

To Make:

  1. Experiment with stacking toys until you are happy with your arrangements. Glue together with hot glue.

2. Cut a loop of string, cord or leather. Glue into a large wooden bead using hot glue.

3. Paint with your favourite Christmas colours.

4. Add some special details, then coat in varnish.

5. Hang and enjoy or give to friends and family as keepsakes!
