Workshops & Events

Susie and her team are passionate about fostering creativity while promoting sustainability and creative re-use. Workshops and events are suitable for all ages and cater for both small and very large groups in private, commercial or festival settings.

While we love to collaborate and create bespoke activations and experiences, we also have a range of offerings that have been tried and tested and are available on request. These include our BIG BUILD Adventure Playground and Kids Maker Markets, as well as a huge range of creative workshops.

THE BIG BUILD

Get ready to embark on an epic adventure with THE BIG BUILD, an adventure playground that's all about creativity, teamwork, and STEAM powered fun! Families and tradespeople work side by side to create their dream playground using recycled materials. Put on your builder's hat, grab your tools, and let's play!

THE BIG BUILD began as a seed of an idea when Susie and co-creator Pip Hall were researching ideas for the 2022 Way out West (WOW) Festival at Casula Powerhouse. As enthusiastic play workers with six children between them, they saw a need for unstructured ‘risky’ play that urban kids are often lacking.

The event sold out on the first day and continued to sell out for the following six days of the 2022 festival. The project was revived for the 2023 festival and even before tickets went on sale, there was incredible demand. The program sold out again and was a major highlight of the festival.

THE BIG BUILD employs licensed and insured contractors to deliver and run the program and parent participation is essential. All staff have current Working With Children Checks and experience working with children in creative environments.

The program is suitable for festivals and events with suitable space requirements and can run for one day with multiple sessions or across multiple days/weeks.

Kids Maker Markets

Kids Maker Markets offer a distinctive platform where children take on roles as artists, makers and entrepreneurs. As they engage with customers, negotiate deals, and handle their finances, they gain valuable real-world experience beyond just making sales.

We work directly with the community to attract stallholders, liaising with local schools, parent groups, creative centres and social media platforms. Applications are open to school-aged children and products must be exclusively handmade.

Extensive information packs are distributed to stallholders and an optional in-person workshop can be arranged to provide stallholders with face-to-face advice + tips and tricks for maximising their stall potential.

Stalls are always free to makers so the event requires funding to occur. Stalls and decorations can be included in the production fee and our team are present for install, set up and pack down of the event.
